Modal beamformers without eigenbeam zeroes for arc arrays

  • 摘要: 针对模态波束形成器特征波束零陷带来稳健性下降的问题, 提出了基于弧形阵的无零陷模态波束形成方法。该方法构造出无零陷的弧特征波束, 并通过数学推导证明其构成完备的正交基, 进而建立了弧谐波域下的模态波束形成理论框架。在该理论下推导设计了延时求和、最小方差无失真响应、相位模式以及多约束波束形成方法。仿真与湖试数据表明, 所提方法能够有效避免特征波束零陷, 在宽带场景下保持良好的稳健性, 并突破了圆环阵截断阶数带来的工作带宽限制, 在阵列开角为半圆时, 适用带宽可扩展到圆环阵的4倍。

     

    Abstract: To address the robustness degradation caused by eigenbeam nulls in modal beamformers, this paper proposes a null-free modal beamforming method based on an arc array. The method constructs a set of null-free arc eigenbeams and proves that they form a complete and orthogonal basis, thereby establishing a theoretical framework for modal beamforming in the arc harmonic domain. Within this framework, the design methodologies for delay-and-sum, minimum variance distortionless response, phase mode, and multi-constraint beamformers are systematically derived. Simulation and lake trial results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively eliminates eigenbeam nulls, maintains high robustness under broadband conditions, and overcomes the bandwidth limitation imposed by the truncation order in conventional circular arrays. Notably, when the arc array spans a semicircle, the applicable bandwidth can be extended up to four times that of the circular array.
