Abstract
The formula of Rayleigh wave's vertical energy attenuation in a semi-infinite substrate with a fluid layer is derived.It is tested and verified by ultrasonic experiment in aluminum plates with man-made slots.A quantitative agreement is obtained between experiment and theory.The velocity difference between Rayleigh waves with a fluid layer and without a fluid layer is verified by the experiment also.Some functions of Rayleigh wave's attenuation rule in actual application are discussed.
