Interchannel time difference and stereophonic sound image localization

  • By using the method of correlation theoretical analysis to interaural sound pressure, this paper studies the effect of interchannel time difference on stereophonic image localization. Theoretical and experimental results show that, at low frequency (f ≤ 0.6 kHz), interchannel time difference can not produce sound image shift. Only when f > 0.7 kHz, does the effect of interchannel time difference become obvious gradually. Moreover, the definiteness and naturalness of sound image created by interchannel time difference is poor. Therefore, in practical use, the method of recreating sound image only by interchannel time difference should be avoided.
