THE MEAN SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TEN VOWELS OF THE STANDARD CHINESE （PUTONGHUA）

The present paper reports the three methods(1) the classical method of individual voicing in free field; (2) the method of collective voicing in reverberation chamber; and (3) the method of singing voice applied for the determination of the mean spectral characteristics of the vowel and the method to determine the fundamental frequency of vocal-cord wave in flat voicing from the results of wide-band analysis. The statistical characteristics of the fundamental frequency of vocal-cord wave in flat voicing and the mean spectral characteristics of ten vowels in standard Chinese for men and women are given.
