MEASUREMENT OF PRESSURE EFFECT OF ULTRASONIC CAVITATION

  • A reliable method for measuring the pressure effect produced by ultrasonic cavitation is described, utilizing a waveguide probe with cusp. By this method, peak pressures of ultrasonic cavitation in various liquids were measured and it was found to be about 4 × 103 atm. in water.
Relation between the peak pressure produced by ultrasonic cavitation and the vibration amplitude of velocity transformer at end surface was investigated. Results show that the peak pressure produced by ultrasonic cavitation tends to saturate for large amplitudes of the velocity transformer.
