MEAN SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STANDARD CHINESE (PUTONGHUA)

The method for the determination of mean spectral characteristics of speech through analysis of superposed speech samples in reverberation chamber is described and applied to the standard Chinese (putonghua), and the results were compared with those obtained by the method of "speech noise" in free field, and by weighted averaging of standard spectral envelope of vowels. Good agreement was found among them. On this basis, a standard average spectrum of putonghua is proposed and its analytical given.
