Abstract
Two types of auditory interneurons in cicada Cryptotympana atrata different in discharge patterns have been studied in terms of the response threshold-frequency relationships and the coding of intensity and temporal features of the acoustic signals. The results show that they can function as a simple sound intensity and timing coder and impulse marker, respectively.
