Abstract
This paper presents a horizontal omni-directional low-frequency broadband high-power star-type cylinder transducer which is composed of six Tonpilz transducers sharing with one back mass. The transducer is analyzed and designed by the finite element method(FEM),a prototype is also produced. The transducer has three resonant modes within 1 kHz to 10 kHz in air,the first and second modes contribute to broaden the bandwidth, the third mode gives a significant direction. It is also measured in anechoic tank, the working bandwidth covers one octave and the maximum source level is 199.1 dB.The finite element simulation and experimental methods are in good agreement. The results show that the working bandwidth of the transducer is broaden by using the longitudinal and bending modes, and it also meets the omni-directional low-frequency high power need,a new ideas to design the transducer with these characteristics is provided.
